Seeing is Believing is a self-portrait of the artist and her reflection in water. A title chosen from an idiom that suggests that “only physical or concrete evidence is convincing.” An idea based on how our consciousness creates reality for quantum support and adheres to things that biology and neuroscience are telling those about the structure of a human’s being.
“Sometimes we see things in our dreams that seem very real and often we get to experience living the dream that we once imagined. Does this mean that we are consciously creating our own world?”
A person’s perception of reality oftentimes is different from reality itself. What they may call or see as their reality are their brains’ attempt to process the incoming flood of sensory data.
“We see what we want to see or what we expect to see but is this actually what our brain tells us we saw? We see what we believe and sometimes, it is necessary to believe what we see. Not only do we tend to see what we expect to see, we also experience what we want to experience.”
With this self-portrait the artist is addressing how self-reflection encourages us to discover things that are not always how they seem at first. Now living a hyper-reality of a Trumpian America the artist has found it more important that ever to not lose sight of what is truly real!
