Sebastian McLaughlin

Jersey City, New Jersey

Sebastian McLaughlinSebastian McLaughlin is an artist from the seaside town of Buncrana in the northwest of Ireland currently residing in Jersey City.

He studied fine art in Ireland at Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology (GMIT) and National College of Art and Design (NCAD), before emigrating to the U.S. in 2010 to pursue a career in the arts in New York City. During his journey here he has had solo exhibitions, numerous group exhibitions, and other music and art projects throughout the city.

Sebastian’s work is a mixture of painting and drawing—exploring subjects through various mediums, from pencil, charcoal, and pastels to oil and acrylic paint. He likes to explore a range of subjects in his surroundings, as well as life drawing and the study of the human figure. Using the human figure, portraits, landscapes, and cityscapes as subject matter he creates work that is atmospherically sensitive, that expresses something engaging and provokes the viewer to reflect on a thought or a perspective.

Sebastian’s works are among various private collectors around the world. Stylistically, inspiration for his work has come from great artists such as Edward Hopper, Edgar Degas, Vincent Van Gogh, Egon Schiele, Alex Kanevsky, Daniel Pitin, and Kim Cogan.
