Joe Epstein

Hoboken, New Jersey

Joe EpsteinJoe Epstein's journey in photojournalism began prior to high school and became a life’s pursuit during his years at Ithaca College where he earned a Bachelors Degree from the School of Communications with an emphasis in Photography.

Focusing first in the field of photojournalism, Joe has worked in the newspaper field for more than 25 years, the last 18 for The Star-Ledger in Newark, NJ. His work has also been published in magazines, including Sports Illustrated, OT Week, OT Practice, and on the cover of Exceptional Parent. His work can be viewed in books published by Prentice Hall and McGraw-Hill.

Joe volunteered with Special Olympics New Jersey for over 10 years as a coach and a photographer. During that time his photographs appeared on the cover of several limited edition boxes of General Mills’ cereals; Team Cheerios, Golden Grahams and Wheaties.

He has won awards for his work from New York Press Photographers Association, the New Jersey Press Association, New England Press Association, and the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association, and was part of the staff at The Star-Ledger that won the Pulitzer Prize in 2005. His work has been displayed in local galleries and fine art shows throughout Metropolitan New York and he was recently commissioned for luxury residential development in New Jersey.

Capturing the image is only part of the process. The computer and memory card may have replaced the chemicals of the darkroom, but Joe's ethics have not changed. He painstakingly edits each image, bringing to print what he viewed through the lens.

Over the years Joe has refined his technique and trained his eyes to see the world in a unique way. His images go beyond the basics, displaying a vision blended of light, motion, and viewpoint.

In the few hours each week when Joe is not viewing the world through his camera, he can be found at home in Hoboken, NJ with his wife and son, capturing the moments of life.
